The authentic German cuisine and entertainment made it “feel like you were really at a Munich Octoberfest,” said Irene Schaefer of Chatham, president of the Meyersville Grange. The Grange’s second Octoberfest was held on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Grange Hall in the Meyersville section of Long Hill Township.
According to Schaefer, the food, prepared and cooked by two German guests, was one of the evening’s highlights. The nearly 100 attendees dined on roasted pork loin, spaetzle, pot roast, bratwurst, sauerkraut, red beets, potato pancakes, Bavarian pretzels, German beer and wine, all topped off with fresh baked apple strudel.
“The atmosphere was very festive with many men in lederhosen and women in colorful dirndls,” said Schaefer.
Some guests were the recipients of such door prizes as dinner certificates to the New Providence Diner and Paulie’s Restaurant, golf umbrellas or large mum plants.
Also, lending a hand behind the scenes was Boy Scout Troop 18 of Florham Park who cleared tables and washed dishes and cookware. |
